Services Held for Mrs. Katherine Moeckly
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Charles (Katherine Howrick)
Moeckly, Britton on Thursday, Jan. 17 at the United Methodist church
at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Berty Hakeem officiating.
Music for the service was provided by Nyle Meeker and Mrs.
Darrell Wallace.
Pallbearers were Clifford Reyelts, Vern Wampler, Lewis Tisher,
Buss Tisher, Clifford Bush and Henry Freudenthal.
Katherine Howrick was born June 13, 1877 in Crocker, IA to Peter
and Christine Howrick. She departed this life on Jan. 14, 1974 at the
Marshall Manor, at the age of 96 years.
She taught in the Polk County schools four years before her
marriage in 1900 to Charles Moeckly. They moved to a farm near Dell
Rapids and later to Hanson county. In 1905 they moved to Marshall
county where they farmed until Charles died in 1941.
Mrs. Moeckly was active in church work most of her life. She
organized and taught Sunday School in a school house in Stena township
and was Superintendent in the Amherst Union church for several years.
Later she was an active member of the Britton Methodist church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Bessie) Jones, Sioux
Falls; three sons: Merl, Welby and Richard, all of Britton; 13
grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, a year old baby
son, two sisters, Frederica Granberg and Lena Howrick, her parents and
an infant great-granddaughter.
Burial was in the Britton cemetery under the direction of the
Franzen Funeral Home, Britton.
